Ozzy Osbourne did not write all of his songs by himself. Collaborators such as Geezer Butler, Bob Daisley, and Lemmy Kilmister played important roles in his songwriting process. Butler was responsible for most of Black Sabbath’s lyrics, Daisley ghostwrote for Ozzy’s early solo work, and Lemmy contributed to ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’. While jamming, Ozzy would sing improvised lyrics to try to get the melody down. Once the vocal melody was down, Geezer would write the lyrics based on the vocal melody. Ozzy did write some lyrics. Changes by Ozzy Osbourne was written by Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward and was first released by Black Sabbath in 1972. Ozzy Osbourne released it on the single Changes in 1993. It was covered by Bloody Hammers, Susanna [NO], Curtis Harvey Trio, The Sweptaways and other artists. The genesis of the song was simple. The group were writing and recording in the Bel-Air, California mansion they were renting when inspiration struck, as Osbourne wrote in his 2009 memoir I Am Ozzy. But while Ozzy updated his sound with new levels of heaviness (special thanks to first mate guitarist Zakk Wylde, who’s performed on Ozzy’s best work since the ‘90s), and expanded his range with power ballads (the lovely “Mama, I’m Coming Home,” a song few of Ozzy’s peers could have pulled off, is as enduring as anything he recorded), he didn’t chase trends. He maintained his Born John Michael Osbourne in Aston, Birmingham, on December 3 1948, Ozzy he left school at 15. He did odd jobs including factory work before teaming up with school friend Geezer Butler in several Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne reworked "Changes" as a father-daughter duet in 2003, turning into a song about daddy's little girl leaving the nest: Kelly: I love you daddy But I found my way Ozzy: My baby is grown now She's found her way This version was a #1 hit in the UK, a chart position no Black Sabbath or Ozzy Osbourne song never reached. It got a bump from the reality show The Osbournes, which Sharon Osbourne revealed she was able to grant Ozzy's 'final wish’ before his death aged 76, two weeks after final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham.
