The long-awaited Down to Earth, his first CD in six years, is yet another headbangers’ ball of power-mad Zakk Wylde guitar riffs, thunderously plodding dinosaur-stomp beats and Ozzy’s endearingly bleated vocals about hell and death and addiction and, well, the usual stuff that makes up Ozzy’s world. Ozzy's singing lines aren't that good. The worst is that the riffs aren't interesting at all and the solos aren't very catchy. So maybe the fans will be divided like fifty/fifty so this is not more than a 50. This album is as disappointing as Ozzy 's performance in Donington in 1996. On Ozzy's latest solo album Down to Earth, Zakk Wylde's shredding is particularly vicious and uncompromising and his general tone will tear through yours and your next-door neighbor's apartments. Skip the ballads and whack out the denim, there’s nothing quite like Ozzy in full flow. He’s the God Father of Metal, got more money than he knows what to do with, a travelling metal fest, the adoration of millions and a new bad-ass solo record. Could life for the Ozzman get any better? Ozzy is the biggest pacifist on the planet, as we all know! His x-ray is the only one in the history of science with his tattoos clearly visible! I went out and bought "Down To Earth" the moment it was released. One of the best decisions I ever made! Despite Ozzy's age, his singing abilities have not changed a bit. Reunited with “No More Tears” cowriter Zakk Wylde on scorched-earth guitar, Ozzy kicks things off with “Gets Me Through”, a so-so number in the bulldozing style of his former band, Black Sabbath. He follows it up with the better “Facing Hell”, an anthemic ear buster sure to please testosterone-fuelled air punchers. Even at the height of my teenage Ozzy fandom, Down to Earth is one album that I’ve just never been able to get into. The playing is competent but lacking in any standout performances and the songwriting is generally going through the motions with a couple songs managing to keep its head above water.
