Ozzy Osbourne’s tenth studio album, Black Rain, released on May 22, 2007, marked his return to all-new studio material after a six-year gap since 2001’s Down to Earth. It isn’t too much of an accomplishment for Black Rain to be Ozzy’s best solo album in the 21st century, but it manages to be decent enough in its own right. It’s got the usual hangups with lesser songs and an excessively clean pop presentation, but it benefits from more impactful musicianship. Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain review: Not even Ozzy Osbourne can make music forever, and Black Rain proves it. The Prince of Darkness' ninth album, to be frank, is quite embarrassing. See how this album was rated and reviewed by the users of AoTY.org. Black Rain is the tenth studio album by the English heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, released 22 May 2007 via Epic Records. [1] It is Osbourne's last album to date to feature drummer Mike Bordin, and the first to feature bassist Rob Nicholson. Fortunately Black Rain is saved from complete suckdom by two more rockers, “11 Silver” and album closer “Trap Door,” the latter of which is actually a really solid, heavy track. Despite some genuinely good riffs and sections, again I feel slightly gypped in the overall song construction department with both of these. Ozzy returns with a startlingly heavy ninth studio album, a record filled with vows to continue his rock 'n' roll ways ("Not Going Away," "I Don't Wanna Stop"), meditations on the state of a world that has changed surprisingly little since Black Sabbath's early days ("Black Rain," "God Bless the Almighty Dollar") and the obligatory ballad Ozzy’s first album of original material in six years, Black Rain is a dark and powerful return to form. Featuring heavy, apocalyptic riffs on songs like I Don’t Wanna Stop, it captures the Prince of Darkness at his hard-hitting best. The title track, Black Rain actually has some harmonica at the beginning; something that Ozzy hasn't been associated with since his Sabbath days. Here For You is the piano ballad of the album, comparable to songs like So Tired and Dreamer. The beginning of Lay Your World On Me sounds like Gary Numan'sDown In The Park. Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain review: We should all probably admit to ourselves that we will never hear another Blizzard of Ozz, or even No More Tears. That was a different time with different people BLACK RAIN contains the suspected ballads: “Lay Your World On Me” and “Here For You” which are particularly sappy and lackluster even by OZZY’s standards. While the rest of the tracks are classic heavy metal sounding they lack the oomf of the three standouts that lead the pack. Black Rain may fall on Ozzy on this rather goofy looking album cover, but the only thing resembling it that you’ll likely get from listening to it is the desire to pack your ears with stones in order to give this album the illusion of rocking out. It has that sort of smooth, flowing bass character to it and a sort of slow groove that is conducive to melodic material that doesn’t just follow the riff that way Ozzy often does. Instead of overused guitar squeals and meandering shred fests there’s a sort of bluesy harmonica line that trades places with Black Rain by Ozzy Osbourne released in 2007.
