Ozzy is my favourite singer, he has a killer voice and persona, just goes perfectly with the music he does. He himself said he cant sing tho lol. I’m sure there were maybe hundreds of singers in Birmingham in the late 60s who had a greater range or a more pure voice than Ozzy but Ozzy is the one that showed up to Black Sabbath and changed history. As Geezer and Iommi began to drop tube their instruments, Ozzy’s low voice could no longer match pitch and in turn had to use a higher register to stay in key with the instruments. It’s actually the reason I prefer Ozzy’s work with Black Sabbath over Dio’s. For me at least, Ozzy’s voice is a very sinister one, whereas Dio’s is much more triumphant. Ozzy has a much more creepy, eerie, and evil sound than Dio with his nasal voice and sing-songy way of singing. Compare Electric Funeral to Heaven and Hell, both incredible songs but Ozzy sounds so creepy and Ozzy Osbourne’s voice is a great reminder that you don’t need a traditionally “beautiful” voice to be successful as a singer. What sets Ozzy apart is his authenticity and the distinctive sound he has developed over time. As an aspiring singer, it’s important to embrace your natural voice and find what makes it unique. This is actually something that I noticed many, many years ago, but the change in the way Ozzy Osbourne's vocals sound between the self-titled Black Sabbath debut album and Paranoid is kind of striking. His vocals on the S/T album sound much deeper and more resonant than on any album afterward.
