It was released on 9 September 2022 through Epic Records and was produced by Andrew Watt. [3] Patient Number 9 received favourable reviews from music critics and won Best Rock Album at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. [4] It was ranked as the 9th best guitar album of 2022 by Guitar World On 9/9, 2022, Patient Number 9 came out. It is a unique album in the sense that it gathers an almost innumerable force of all-star talent under the Ozzy banner. While some of that talent seems to be merely along for the ride, Patient Number 9 contains enough truly excellent songs to make some of it at least worth a few listens. Ozzy Osbourne refuses to stop on all-star 13th solo album, Patient Number 9. And unlike Ordinary Man, Patient Number 9 is a more focused work; the pieces fit together more easily, most likely a result of producer Watt's growing relationship with Osbourne. What holds back Patient Number 9 from true greatness is Ozzy’s obvious processed vocals, choruses that are a little too poppy, and Andrew Watt’s production. Watt should be not be focused on producing Ozzy like a pop/rock record – this is heavy metal! The rhythm guitars need to be beefed up desperately and the drumming needs more variation and thunder. Give me something that sounds like When Ozzy Osbourne released his album Ordinary Man in 2020, it seemed like the perfect swan song – emotive, reflective, and almost elegiac in parts, it was a surprisingly vulnerable examination of mortality from the original heavy metal icon. But Ozzy has a terrible track record when it comes to retirement, and work on Patient Number 9 seemingly began as soon as Ordinary Man hit the shelves This is not the only stance taken by the former Sabbath frontman on this thirteenth opus, either; it is only the bravest of musicians not associated with the prog genre who would dare place a seven-minute mid-tempo stomper as the opener for an album, and yet, that is exactly what Osbourne does on Patient Number 9 – and to fantastic effect, too. Even with that fatalistic perspective sometimes peeking through, Ozzy sounds hypercharged throughout Patient Number 9, continuing the unlikely late-in-the-game comeback he began on Ordinary Man, and besting that album by taking more chances. OZZY OSBOURNE Patient Number 9 Epic (2022) Rating: 6.5/10 To criticise an Ozzy Osbourne album feels a bit like having a row with your dad, a person you’ve grown up with and have so much respect for. While Patient Number 9 isn’t anywhere near Ozzy Osbourne’s best works or even that particularly great, it’s at least an improvement over Ordinary Man.
